This year saw a change of location for the Red Kite Challenge having been at Nant yr Arian for the previous eleven years the event shifted inland to the wonderful location of the Woodlands Caravan Site, Ponterwyd.
First on the menu was a hotly contested junior races, with a year on increase in runners we hope that the new course was suitably challenging and varied for the runners. U20 winners were Jacob Griffiths (Colwyn Bay) and Megan Carter-Davies (Aberystwyth AC), U17s; Ffion Qwan (Sarn Helen) and John Spill (Eryri), U15s; Holli Jehu (Aberdare) and Luke Davies (Brecon AC). Well done to all the guys who took part,
full results are available on the
Race Results spreadsheet 2004-2014 (in a Miscrosoft Excel File)
and on their On-line Race Results website.
The Red Kite 10k was equally challenging with the first three men crossing the finish line on the hillock 9 seconds apart, Richard Anthony (Aberystwyth AC) was the first back in 41:46 followed three seconds later by Edd Land (Aberystwyth AC) and a further six seconds by Andrew Davies (Thornbury). The ladies race was won by Sian Mari Thomas (Cardiff AC) in 46:25.
In the ½ marathon, Jonathan Barnes (Mynydd Du) held of regular Kite Man Peter Ryder (Cardiff AC) to win in a time of 1:26:49, Katie Beecher (Les Croupiers) won the ladies race in a good time 1:46:42. The times for all races were excellent but show the testing nature of the terrain encountered, we hope to see you all back at the Woodlands in 2015.
A big thank you to all our sponsors, supporters, RAYNET, St John's, Pat and Roland for the race results, our marshals, finish line helpers, the course markers, the land owners who allowed us passage over their land, suppliers of water and food, particular thanks to Mrs Bunton for the Bara Brith.
In particular we would like to thank Woodlands Caravan Site who were the perfect hosts and very kindly allowed us to use their lovely site and facilities, the finishing decent into the top field was just perfect. Where else can you camp and wake up next to the finish line!!
Please, please let us know how we did, the good and the bad so we can improve next year.
